AECG

Our local Parkes Public School Aboriginal Parent group meets regularly at our school to discuss what is happening throughout our community and school in regard to Aboriginal education and acknowledgement of Aboriginal culture within the Parkes area. Everyone is welcome to attend our local Aboriginal parent meetings. Dates for these meetings can be found in the weekly newsletter.

Our local AECG group were involved with the planning and organising of our Numeracy Fun Day in NAIDOC Week.

Many parents and grandparents came and assisted with a wide range of activities that combined numeracy and Aboriginal cultural perspectives.

It was fantastic to have so many visitors throughout the day for our flag raising ceremony, numeracy activities and picnic lunch.

Four of our students have become involved in the Parkes Junior AECG. Tori Watt, Zac Elsley, Iesha Clarke and Mitchell Hawken have been selected to represent our school in this group. This group brings together students from local Parkes schools to discuss issues and ideas that directly affect Aboriginal students.

This program is a great opportunity for these students to develop greater skills in leadership, as well as provide meaningful opportunities to have an influence in the development of the Aboriginal culture in our schools.
